Can LEP be rapidly modulated?
Like LEDs, LEP can be switched on and off instantly with no warm‑up required. For rapidly modulation, LEP's modulation speed is even ten times faster than that of LEDs. The laser exhibits a response time of several nanoseconds, while the fluorescent material (YAG, used in FCC configuration) has a response time of approximately 20 ns. The overall system response is therefore on the order of tens of nanoseconds, enabling the LEP to achieve a modulation bandwidth of 10 MHz.
Accordingly, LEP can carry information for visible light communication (VLC) over distances of several kilometers. It can also easily transmit simple signals such as blinking SOS.
