LEP stands for Laser-Excited Phosphor. A blue laser diode inside excites phosphor material to generate broadband, non-coherent white light.
It represents the 4th-generation light source technology following LED, and is also one of the most advanced semiconductor light source technologies available today.
The product has a long‑term operating lifetime of 10,000‑30,000 hours.
Same Mechanism as LED
The blue laser is isolatedly sealed inside the LEP module as an energy source. It excites the phosphor material to produce broadband, incoherent fluorescence, similar to the light emitted by LED.
LEP vs. LED
Efficiency (lm/W) | Brightness (cd/mm2) | Lifetime (hours) | High-speed Modulation | Warm-up time | Cost | Applications | |
LED | 70 ~150 | 20 ~ 200 | 30000~50000 | Supported | 0 | Low | General Lighting |
LEP | 60 ~ 100 | 800 ~ 4000 | 10000~30000 | Supported | 0 | High | Specific Lighting |
